Does My Generation Affect America’s Future?
Well of course it does. Unfortunately, it looks like America won’t be changing for the better. I mean seriously, some people are just idiots. My generation spends hours in front of the screen. TV screen, computer screen, the screen of their cell phone, but everything is digital. People’s brains are turning to oatmeal and gushing out their ears! Creativity, originality, and independence are fading. Timeless values like honor, courage, altruism, and good old common sense are being replaced with dishonesty, cowardice, greed, and sheer idiocy. People are turning into sheep.
Lol. C u l8ter. Wat r u doin 2nite? Is this becoming the vernacular of our time? Are we so short on adjectives that we rely on emoticons to convey our feelings? With the cell phone came text talk, a depressing language of abbreviations that slowly infiltrated our society, hitting my generation the hardest. Soon words with more than two syllables will things that only college professors and scholars can understand.
The seed of idiocy that has been planted in our world is being watered by the Tube. If one spends too much time watching the TV they end as a monster with Tapioca for brains that cannot think for itself. Not only does the TV turn our brains to nasty mush, but it destroys our culture. I mean can anything on TV compare to seeing Wicked on Broadway? I know that a comic book can never begin to replace the works of Shakespeare. Recently, I watched The Pacifier. I was horrified at the end when the Mother Abbey in The Sound of Music was portrayed as a man in a nun’s habit? The inspirational music of Climb Every Mountain was forever destroyed in my mind.
Does SpongeBob teach any life lessons? It’s not humor, its cartoons acting like idiots. What do children learn from this? If you’re a moron, you can get away with it and still live a relatively normal life. I think not! Morons are people who are working Slurpee machines their entire life, and living in their mother’s basement!
The so-called “nerds”, our last hope. Why are they getting their heads stuffed into toilets? The genius children, who can think outside the box, see original solutions are shunned and bullied. There is something definitely wrong there! These children should be honored as the heroes they are, not being given wedgies. What’s the logic in hounding those who strive to break through the crowds of mediocrity? We should encourage those forward thinkers, those eagles among ducks. We should lift them up and pray they’ll bring their fellows with them.
People are turning into mindless ducks that swim in circles in their little pond, not rocking the boat, keeping their head down and going about their dull little lives. Where are the eagles and the forward thinkers? Well, they probably got stuffed in their locker or in the dumpster again. The ducks are terrified of the eagles. Why shouldn’t they be? The eagles are everything the ducks wish they were. The eagles are not afraid to make ripples, to swim against the tide. They aren’t afraid to be great.
What are the classic values that make people great? Love, hope, honor, selflessness. Where have these gone? We live in a world where the people who live courageous, honorable lives, serving their fellow men and striving to reach out and make the world a better place are laughed at, duped and called naïve. The people who are true angels, helping others, acting selflessly, leading crusades are being observed and quietly snickered at by the rest of the world.
To quote the musical Les Miserables, “Everywhere we go, law abiding folk, doing what is decent but their mostly broke. We’re the ones who take it; we’re the ones who make it in the end.” It’s sad, but it’s true. Those people who cheat, lie, and backstab go the farthest in society. Politicians are dishonest, lawyers are thieves, and doctors are corrupt. So much so that people can joke about it. Have we become a Machiavellian society where the ends justify the means? It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you have enough dough to pay off the big boys.
So will me generation effect America’s future? Yes, we will. And sadly, that’s a very bad thing. What are you going to do about it? Be a voice hope among the drones, calling people to your just cause? I applaud you. I intend to become the crazy old cat lady with a giant paisley handbag who mutters to herself as she rushes up the street to buy cat food.
Okay, maybe more then a 'little' sarcastic... enjoy!
